Spoken For

First,

They came for the Muslims,

And the people, they said,

“Take them away, good man,

To somewhere far beyond our borders.”

Then,

They came for the Mexicans,

And the people, they shouted,

“Build a wall, good man,

To keep them away from our borders.”

Then,

They came for the people,

And the people, having spoken,

Had little more to say

With their mouths sewed shut,

Border to border.
